History

ACK Kiahuria Parish is an Anglican Church under the Diocese of Mt. Kenya South, led by Bishop Rt. Rev. Charles M. Muturi. The Parish falls under Kibichiku Deanery within the Kabete Archdeaconry.

Established in December 1993 as ACK Bishop Kariuki Memorial Chapel, the church was carved out of ACK St. Peters Church Ndunyu. At its inception, it held three services: Kikuyu, English, and Sunday School, and was then under Kirangari Archdeaconry.

The church administration comprises the Vicar, PCC, Development Department, KAMA, Mothers’ Union (MU), and the Children, Teens, and Youth (CTY) Department.

  • Over the years, the church has been led by the following Vicars:
  • • Rev. Edith Njoki Njiri May – Nov 2003
  • • Rev. Dr Zablon Bundi 2003 -2004
  • • Rev. Samuel Ndichu 2004 -2007
  • • Rev.Japheth Kathenya Jan – Feb 2008
  • • Rev. Solomon Karanja 2008 – 2013
  • • Rev. Cap Peter Kamau 2014 – 2015
  • • Rev.Jeremiah Muchoki 2016 • Rev. Nelly Kariuki 2017
  • • Rev. Mercy Maina 2018 – 2021 • Rev. Michael Ng’ang’a 2022 -to date

The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1986 by the late Archbishop Manasses Kuria. Between 2008 and 2021, major developments included installation of ceramic tiles and a ceiling, replacement of plastic chairs with wooden pews, construction of residential houses by the Mothers’ Union, and a modern ablution block built by KAMA to serve men, women, and boys.

The Vicar’s Office was remodeled and furnished with modern seating, and the vestry was restructured to accommodate a growing PCC. Sunday School and teens’ worship rooms were upgraded with painting, artwork, and screens for teaching. The IT and Music Department received wireless microphones, a drum set, a computer with four screens, powerful speakers, and modern lighting.

ACK Kiahuria Parish has grown not only physically but also spiritually and numerically—from about 100 members at inception to over 720 members today. The Sunday School now serves over 300 children, with classes separated by age groups. The Teens group focuses on reaching adolescents at their level, while the Youth fellowship, also known as Victory Church, continues to grow both numerically and spiritually.

The Mothers’ Union (MU) plays a vital role in strengthening families, offering counseling and teaching, and enrolling new members annually. The Kenya Anglican Men Association (KAMA) provides men with leadership and mentorship opportunities and actively contributes to the Church’s success.

The vibrant Church choir continues to grow, serving both English and Kikuyu services.
